Người Anh có nhiều cụm từ dùng nhạc cụ, âm nhạc để mô tả các sự việc khác một cách đầy ẩn ý.
 
Elevator music (n) - pleasant but boring record music that is played in public places Example: I wish they would play something besides this boring elevator music. Ring a bell (v):  (something that) sound familiar. Example: The name rang a bell but I couldn't remember where I had heard it before.

Jam session (n) - an informal performance of jazz or rock music that the musicians have not planned or practised Example:  Andy and Nick had a jam session last night and kept all the neighbors awake.
